The area is deeply connected to its Native American and Spanish/Hispanic roots, which together shape the cultural heartbeat of the region. Several pueblos and tribal nations are located within and around the county, including Acoma Pueblo, Laguna Pueblo, Zuni Pueblo, and portions of the Navajo Nation.
